Trifluoperazine HCl
Indications/Uses
Low dose: Control of nervousness, tension, agitation. Nausea & vomiting from various origins. High dose: Acute & chronic catatonic, hebephrenic schizophrenia & paranoia, psychosis due to organic brain damage & intoxication. Control of manic-depressive disease symptoms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Outpatient 1-2 mg twice daily. Max: 6 mg daily, hospitalized patient 2-5 mg twice daily, may be increased in increments of 5 mg w/in 3 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Coma, severe depression, blood dyscrasia, bone-marrow depression, hepatic disease.
Adverse Reactions
Asthenia, nervousness, drowsiness, insomnia, dry mouth, blurred vision, muscle weakness, hypotension, extrapyramidal symptoms (high-dose usage or patients >40 yr).
